Josiah Caldwell

The locomotive Sagamore ran on the Eastern Railroad.  One stop was Ipswich, wehre Josiah Caldwell was superintendent of the railroad station.  Earlier, he had sold lumber to shipbuilders, then became director of  a cotton mill.  Josiah's changing business interests reflected a change in Ipswich -- from a busy seaport to an industrial center aided by new transportation networks.
