Deceased Was One of Miller County's Pioneer Citizens

Edmund W. Burks, a highly respected citizen, died at the home of his son Howard of Crocker Thursday (Jan. 15, 1925) of last week following a protracted illness
Mr. Burks was born in Tennessee March 3, 1841 and came to
Miller County while he was a small boy. Early in life he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza R. Denton, who preceded him in death about two years ago. He is survived by three children Howard, a business man of Crocker, Theodore, who resides on a farm in Phelps County and Mrs. Cora Woolery of Glenarm, Ill. Mr. Burks was a brother of Mrs. C. J. (Nancy Elizabeth) Smith, who resided near Tuscumbia until her death a year or so ago. Frank Burks, our sheriff, is a nephew of Mr. Burks.
Deceased engaged in farming near Ulman most of his life and
was recognized as one of our best citizens. He was a member
of the Christian Church. The body was brought to Hickory Point Friday and burial was made there.
